Children Bring Spring ...The Memorial Park project is part of Mayor Manlove's continuing efforts to revitalize the north side of Pasadena. The park site itself was originally developed and dedicated in the early 70's. Years of urban development and an increasing population has elevated the urgency to re-evaluate recreation needs and redevelop public spaces to better serve a changing environment. One of the top 5 project identified n the Pasadena Park's and Open Space Master Plan was the redevelopment of Memorial Park. Because park system redevelopment and related environmental issues were part of Mayor Manlove's promise to the citizens of Pasadena, this project as well as many others, were included in Pasadena's first ever 5 year Capital Improvements Plan. Memorial Park is a 47 acre tract located in Pasadena's northwestern corner along the SH 225 corridor. The Park is considered a "gateway" into Pasadena because it can be seen from 225 as you enter Pasadena. It was important that the redevelopment of the park make a statement as well as address the needs of the northside community. Because the park was named Memorial Park, we chose a theme that would commemorate fallen heros of foreign wars and would celebrate local history. The park will focus on the Battleship Ship Texas with the construction of a battleship playground and interpretive signage that will highlight the battleship's service in both WWI and WWII. We also thought the park would be a perfect classroom to teach ecological systems such as bio-filtration of water. With Pasadena High School right next door, the park lends itself to be a perfect hands-on teaching laboratory. Phase two of the park's development will include a water circulation system that will pump water directly from the bayou to a small brook that will trickle down to a mall lagoon. The water will be purified and then reintroduced into the bayou. The park amenities are geared to a large variety of outdoor activities. Skateboarding, basketball, soccer, football, baseball/softball, walking/jogging, fishing, and glayground use are just some of the opportunities that will be afforded to visitors. There is something for all ages. Clara Barton Memorial Statue ...Life sized memorial tribute to Clara Barton to be donated to the City of Pasadena contracted through Sculptures By Design of Houston.
