Larry was a renowned Texan illustrator, who completed countless works of art in his lifetime … many of which you would easily recognise … such as the Shamu plane design for Southwest Airlines, and the Texas Cowboy Astronaut for NASA. He was born on December 3, 1938 in Houston, Texas, to parents William Elton and Queena Mae Hawes Keith. He graduated from Stephen F. Austin HS in Houston (Class of 57) and later attended UT at Austin and the Texas Academy of Art in Houston. While in art school, he began to focus on commercial graphic artwork. In 1962, he started working for Houston's 2nd largest studio - he was Vice President of the company by the time he resigned in 1967. From that time until he retired, he has been a freelance illustrative artist and produced artwork for many well known companies (including Southwest Airlines, Motorola, Brown & Root, Mr Gatti's Pizza, American Bank, Compaq). Keeping up with the times, he transitioned from using manual airbrush methods to a computerized system. |

Losing his father birthed a new interest for Larry - genealogical research of Keith and related families across North America. He formed the Keith Genealogy Project which produced "KEITH, Collected Genealogies of Keith, Kieth, & Keeth Families in North America". In 2006, Larry began his long awaited respite from city life and moved his base of operations from Houston to a property near Grapeland, Texas - into a cabin that he'd been building for as long as his children can remember. He lost his fight with cancer and passed away at home in his cabin on July 5 2009, surrounded by family, friends and neighbors.
